In 2015, I was part of a student group project at Åbo Akademi University in Turku. We didn't know what we wanted to build — we just knew we wanted to solve a real problem. Then, by chance, we met Jessica.
Jessica is a speech therapist. Around her were families doing what thousands of families do every week: printing, cutting, and gluing picture cards onto a paper week calendar, so that someone they love could see what's coming. Her dream was simple — that the excellent paper week calendar could become an app.
We built it. Moi launched in October 2016, after a year of development. The name stuck because it made us smile: moi is how you say hi in Finnish.
The group project ended, but Moi didn't. It's been my passion project ever since — kept alive evening by evening, shaped by the families, teachers, and speech therapists who used it and told me what the week actually needed. In 2023 I rebuilt Moi from the ground up so it could leave the iPad and live where families are: on phones, on Android, in your pocket. In 2026, Moi grew a proper name — Moi Calendar — and moved into its own home at calendar.moi.
Today, Moi speaks 25 languages and does fridge-door duty in homes, classrooms, and therapy practices — a decade in, still built the same way: with the people who use it.

Why we do this
We want to make technology that helps people.
Easy enough for anyone to use, so the everyday gets a little easier. There are wonderful tools and wonderful professionals around these families — Moi is for the week in between.
